چکیده
FUCHS, ALBERT F., AND DAVID A. ROBINSON. A method for measuring horizontal and vertical eye movement chronically in the monkey. J. Appl. Physiol. 21(s) : 1068-1070. I g66.-Eye movements are measured chronically in the monkey by surgically implanting a coil of fine wire upon the eyeball beneath the bulbar conjunctiva and recti insertions. The ends of the coil are led to a connector mounted on the monkey’s head. When the animal is exposed to two alternating magnetic fields in spatial and phase quadrature, signals generated in the coil on the eye may be phase detected to produce two voltages proportional to horizontal and vertical eye position with an accuracy of 15 min of arc. This technique makes it possible to record eye movements conveniently and accurately in the experimental animal in longor short-term experiments on oculomotor function as well as enabling the experimenter to control eye movements by training the animal in visual tracking tasks.

Horizontal Eye Position Affects Measured Vertical VOR Gain on the Video Head Impulse Test
BACKGROUND/HYPOTHESIS With the video head impulse test (vHIT), the vertical VOR gain is defined as (vertical eye velocity/vertical head velocity), but compensatory eye movements to vertical canal stimulation usually have a torsional component. To minimize the contribution of torsion to the eye movement measurement, the horizontal gaze direction should be directed 40° from straight ahead so it i...
متن کاملA new method for accurate and fast measurement of 3D eye movements.
Videooculography (VOG) is an eye movement measurement method used in the objective evaluation of vestibulo-ocular reflexes (VOR). An important requirement of VOG is to accurately estimate pupil center and ocular torsion, irrespective of drooping eyelids, eyelashes, corneal reflection, and blinking. Finding the accurate center of the pupil is particularly important in three-dimensional VOG, sinc...
متن کاملOblique saccadic eye movements of primates.
The objective of these experiments was to determine whether the trajectories of the horizontal and vertical components of oblique saccades in primates were coupled. Human and monkey eye movements were recorded during a visual tracking task that jumped a small visible target spot to different locations on a tangent screen. For oblique saccades larger than ca. 3 deg, there was coupling between th...
متن کاملRemoving the Interdependency between Horizontal and Vertical Eye-Movement Components in Electrooculograms
This paper introduces a method to remove the unwanted interdependency between vertical and horizontal eye-movement components in electrooculograms (EOGs). EOGs have been widely used to estimate eye movements without a camera in a variety of human-computer interaction (HCI) applications using pairs of electrodes generally attached either above and below the eye (vertical EOG) or to the left and ...
متن کاملCoupling between horizontal and vertical components of saccadic eye movements during constant amplitude and direction gaze shifts in the rhesus monkey.
When the head is free to move, changes in the direction of the line of sight (gaze shifts) can be accomplished using coordinated movements of the eyes and head. During repeated gaze shifts between the same two targets, the amplitudes of the saccadic eye movements and movements of the head vary inversely as a function of the starting positions of the eyes in the orbits. In addition, as head-move...
